Neighborhood Life

East Nashville is steadily growing, with no shortage of bars, restaurants, and vintage shops. A drive down Gallatin Street will show you how quickly this area is transforming from the onslaught of fast-food restaurants. A Taco Bell sits minutes away from arguably the city’s best local coffee shop, Barista Parlor. East Nashville is known for a mix of Craftsman, Tudors, and some well-designed new builds. Areas like Lockeland Springs and Inglewood may boast the ‘cutest’ houses in Nashville.

Local Hangouts

Celebrity chef Sean Brock’s new restaurant, Joyland, and Chef Mailea Weger’s chic restaurant, Lou, are popular dining spots for locals. Enjoy ramen and exceptional Japanese small plates at the famous Two Ten Jack, or experience some of the city’s best Middle Eastern cuisine at Lyra. After hours, enjoy a drink in a sleek speakeasy at The Fox Bar & Cocktail Club. Or, check out the Basement East, one of the city’s most sought-after music venues for touring artists. End the night just down the road at the 5 Spot, where you can catch one of Nashville’s rising stars. For a dose of nature, walk the trails of Shelby Park, which runs along the Cumberland River.

Things to Know

East Nashville is fairly spread out, so owning a car is important in this part of town. While certain areas are walkable, adventuring elsewhere requires wheels. All this “cool” comes with a price tag; East Nashville has gotten very popular over the past four years, and the cost of living has seen a steady rise. There are a few apartment complexes in this neighborhood, but the general trend is living in a house. Perks of a driveway and some outdoor space are common reasons many locals rent homes here.
