Is Buckhead really an Intown neighborhood? Although purists will tell you that it’s too far away from Downtown, no one can dispute the urban nature of the area. Buckhead is Atlanta’s third-largest business district after Downtown Atlanta and Midtown and comprises one-fifth of the city. Call it what you want, but Buckhead residents enjoy the high-end shopping, world-class dining, and happening nightlife of a city neighborhood.

Buckhead has been a major part of Atlanta since the late 1800s, when it was a popular vacation spot for wealthy Atlantans. This neighborhood has become so large that efforts to secede from the city of Atlanta were proposed (but denied) in 2008.

Today, Buckhead remains a major part of Atlanta’s business landscape: It contains one-third of the city’s total high-rise buildings and its retail sector brings in $3 billion a year. Due to the development of Atlanta Tech Village and the popularity of co-working spaces, Buckhead has become a favorable location for tech startups and business incubators.

Major businesses are also moving their headquarters to Buckhead, including Spanx, Carter’s, Salesforce, and Cricket Wireless.

Things to Know

Don’t be discouraged by the huge mansions you’ll see in the “Beverly Hills of the East.” There are lots of apartments for rent, too. The average rent price is $1,870 and includes many luxury options. But with over 41 different neighborhoods, you can still find modern, classy options at lower price points.
